Transport Ticketing

NFC Wearables for Transport Ticketing Systems

NFCKEY is a wearable NFC credential that can function as a transport card replacement when deployed in public or private transport ticketing systems. It serves as an NFC transport card alternative and contactless transport access card, replacing plastic transit cards and paper-based fare media, while fare rules, validation logic, usage limits, and security remain fully managed by the existing transport ticketing system.

Application

Transport Ticketing

Examples

Public transport (metro and rail systems, bus networks), campus transport, corporate or private shuttle systems

Credential Management

System-managed (transport operator–controlled)

Important

NFCKEY is a wearable NFC credential that allows passengers to access public transport services with a simple tap, functioning as a contactless transport ticket or pass.

Transport authorities, operators, and system integrators are responsible for issuing, enrolling, and managing NFCKEY credentials within their fare collection and validation systems. Passengers receive an activated NFCKEY and use it for travel, but cannot independently create, modify, or provision transport credentials.

When supported by the ticketing platform, NFCKEY is issued and managed in the same way as existing contactless transport access cards, subject to system compatibility.

What NFCKEY Replaces in Transport Ticketing Systems

What NFCKEY replaces

Plastic transport cards and transit passes

Paper-based or disposable contactless tickets

Reusable fare media issued to passengers

NFCKEY functions as a wearable transport credential that is presented to validators, readers, or gates in the same way as a traditional transport card.

What NFCKEY does not replace

Validators, gates, or turnstiles

Transport ticketing software or back-office systems

Fare rules, tariffs, or usage policies

NFCKEY does not calculate fares or grant access on its own.
All fare calculation, validation, and enforcement decisions remain within the transport ticketing system.

How NFCKEY Is Commonly Used in Transport Ticketing

In transport environments, NFCKEY is commonly used as an NFC transit access credential for:

  • Daily commuter travel using reusable fare credentials
  • Season passes and subscription-based transport access
  • Campus or corporate shuttle systems
  • Closed-loop transport networks where credentials are issued by the operator

The wearable form factor reduces lost or damaged cards while preserving the same validation flow used by existing contactless transport cards

Benefits of Using NFCKEY in Transport Ticketing Systems

When supported by a transport ticketing platform, NFCKEY offers practical benefits as a wearable transport credential.

Always-With-You Form

Always-With-You Form

Wearable stays attached to keys, bags, or lanyards — reducing forgotten or lost transport cards.

Reinforced Sleeve Mount

Reinforced Sleeve Mount

High-strength sleeve eyelet rated up to 40 kg pull strength — helping prevent breakage during daily commuting.

System-Native Fare Validation

System-Native Fare Validation

Operates with system-defined validation behaviour — preserving existing fare calculation and enforcement logic.

 Custom Design

Custom Design

Supports branded or program-specific designs — allowing operators to differentiate fare products or services.

Durable, Transit-Ready Construction

Durable, Transit-Ready Construction

Designed for frequent handling and outdoor use — resistant to water, dust, and wear in transit environments.

Reduced Disposable Waste

Reduced Disposable Waste

Durable alternative to paper tickets and disposable fare media — reducing re-issuance and material waste.

Who Uses and Who Manages NFCKEY for Transport Ticketing?

Who uses NFCKEY:

  • NFCKEY is used by passengers as a wearable contactless transport credential
  • Passengers present NFCKEY at validators, readers, or gates in the same way as a traditional transport card during travel

Who manages NFCKEY:

  • NFCKEY is issued, enrolled, and managed by the transport authority, operator, or system integrator operating the ticketing system
  • Passengers do not configure, program, or manage transport credentials themselves

Typical setup and usage flow:

  • The transport ticketing system defines fare products, tariffs, and usage rules
  • NFCKEY credentials are issued and linked to passenger accounts or fare profiles
  • Validators or gates read and process the credential during travel
  • NFCKEY functions solely as a wearable NFC transit access credential

All fare calculation, validation, enforcement, and security logic remain fully system-controlled within the transport ticketing platform.

What's next?

  • Confirm credential compatibility with your transport ticketing platform
  • Test NFCKEY with validators and gates before large-scale deployment
  • Select standard or fully custom NFCKEY designs based on operational and branding needs
  • Once compatibility is confirmed, NFCKEY can be deployed as an NFC transport card replacement, functioning in the same way as existing contactless transport access cards within your system.
